How did you travel from Canon City to Pleasant Valley, in the late 1800’s, long before Highway 50 was built in 1915?
In 1872 the Fremont County Commissioners agreed to improve an Indian trail so that stagecoaches and freight wagons could travel between Canon City and the growing mining towns on the upper Arkansas River. The circuitous route crossed the river at Parkdale, traveling up what is now Copper Gulch Road, along Road Gulch, CO 69, to County Road 1A, cross country through the hills into Pleasant Valley at Coaldale. Hours:
The History Center is open during Society programs and by appointment. During the months of April through October, the center is open the last Sunday of each month (1:00-4:00 p.m.)
The Cotopaxi-Mullins History Center
Located at corner of Plum Street & CR 12, Cotopaxi, Colorado
The Cotopaxi-Mullins History Center is open the second Sunday of each month from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Watch for the “Open” sign at other times during the week and stop by. Please feel free to call if you need an appointment.
